Turn off Faucets and Store Hoses
Drain garden hoses and disconnect from the outside spigots. Shut off exterior faucets, and if you have an older home, you may need to turn off the valve inside your home. Store hoses in a dry place so any residual water won’t freeze.
Stock up on Firewood
Whether it’s the crackling of a fireplace or the site and smell of a bonfire, fall is a great time to stock up on firewood – cooler temperatures, fewer mosquitos and snake, makes it a great time for stacking and working. Use large decorative planters to hold kindling right beside your stacks of wood. Remember to keep wood stored in a dry location to prevent less smoke while burning.
Make Your Home Smell Like Autumn
It’s just not Fall without the pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and apple scents we all love. You can have this bounty of aromatics with these DIY tricks. Add a little cinnamon essential oil to pinecones and place in a small basket on your counter or bookshelf. Simmer 2 cups water, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 tablespoon whole cloves, 1 tablespoon vanilla and 1 apple sliced on the stove top or in a crock pot for a robust scent with this home-made potpourri recipe.
Drain and Store Your Lawn Equipment
Over time, unused fuel goes through chemical changes that create deposits and destroy your lawn equipment. Drain the tanks of your lawn mower, leaf blower, and weed eater before storing them. Fall is also an excellent time to get your lawn mower blades sharpened so they’ll be ready for next Spring.
Summer Entertaining Made Easy
From pool parties to beach bonfires to backyard barbecues, summer is the perfect time for outdoor get-togethers. Planning these parties doesn’t have to be stressful with a few simple tricks to keeping it simple.
