In The Know: Preparing Your Home For The Winter Months Ahead
Baby, It's Gonna Get Cold Outside!
Well, fall is here. I guess we all know what’s next, huh?
Every house, no matters its age, needs to be properly prepared for the drastic change in temperatures we in the Midwest experience each year. Going from hot to cold at the drop of a hat is common; we need to be ready.
Here are some of our top tips for getting your house ready for winter.
• Make sure your heating system is clean and in good working condition.
• Make sure windows and doors are properly sealed.
• Clean your gutters.
• Turn off exterior faucets and divert water at least four feet away from the foundation.
• Reverse your ceiling fans when you turn the heat on.
Now sit back, light a fire in your fireplace and relax. Spring will be here before you know it.
In The Know: Questions You Should Ask
Building a home can be stressful, if only because of everything that has to be done before the first nail is even hammered down. At Homeway Homes we want to make building a home easy and convenient. You can help ease some of the stress by asking the right questions of your New Home Consultant or Project Manager.
For example:
• Can I customize my floor plan?
• What brands can I choose from?
• May I make changes after work has started?
• For how long do you guarantee your work?
• How can I be sure you are using top quality materials?
• Is energy efficiency a priority?
• How long will it take to build my home?
• Will I be allowed to watch the build as it progresses?
• Will there be a final inspection/walk through before I take possession?
• Will I be kept up-to-date on the progress?
We look forward to working with you. Give us a call or visit one of our home model centers and let us get started on your next home.
In The Know: Strategies on Energy
With a Homeway Home you already own one of the most energy-efficient homes you can buy. That’s because every house we build is energy efficient. It starts with our Energy Strength Spray Foam Insulation that makes your house as tight as a drum to keep the outside elements outside and the clean air inside.
Also, we use only the best, most efficient brands, such as Andersen windows and top rated heating and air conditioning equipment.
But there are things you can do to lower your utility costs. These include buying energy efficient appliances. Even small kitchen appliances make a difference. Make sure to replace your furnace and air conditioner filters on a regular basis and use energy saving lightbulbs.
Finding the right appliances can help save money, as well. Remember to look for the energy efficient labels on everything from large appliances to ceiling fans to portable heaters.
Also, enjoy the fresh air! You can save money by turning your air conditioner up or off when the temperatures are such that throwing open your windows keeps your home cool. Another tip is to keep your home temperature warmer in summer and cooler in winter when nobody is home.
In The Know: Don’t Be Afraid To Pick A Plan; Customizing Is Our Game
Prefer the kitchen peninsula to be an island? Done!
Move the garage on the other end of the house! You got it!
Want a walk-in closet in each bedroom? No problem!
You tell us what you want, we’ll make it happen. We love doing custom home designs and the options are endless. And to make it even easier, we have color-coded all of our floorplans to give you an idea, perhaps a starting point, for your custom design.
We call it Lifestyle Living. Simply put, that means each plan is designed to fit the way you live.
•If you do a lot of entertaining, we will include space that can be formal or informal, indoor or outdoor, kitchens that encourage guests to come in and sit and chat, or rooms for watching movies or TV.
•If you like to slip away for a bit to unwind and de-stress, we’ll give you spaces for that, such as a privately located master suite or a whirlpool, or perhaps a quiet porch. It also can mean features such as a mud room, so you don’t panic because the kids dragged dirt through your clean house.
•Storage is always at a premium so we include plenty of it, such as a rear foyer, a kitchen pantry or walk-in bedroom closets.
•Do you want a separate room for making music or to do arts and crafts? Perhaps you need in-law quarters? Flexible living areas are those that can be adapted to unique situations.
If you want, bring in your own floorplan. We’ll make it work.
At Homeway Homes, choosing a floorplan doesn’t lock you in. It’s just the beginning.
In The Know: Energy Efficiency Equals Environmental Excellence
If we told you we have a way of saving you 30 percent or more on your energy bill, how would you react? If you would do backflips at that news… Well, you’d better start warming up. Because it’s true.
At Homeway Homes we have developed what we believe – check that, what we know, is the strongest and more energy efficient spray foam insulation you can find anywhere. It’s called Energy Strength Spray Foam Insulation, it hardens immediately upon application into every nook and cranny of the house as it is being built. And because it is so strong, the insulation strengthens the structure of the house itself, making it better able to withstand the elements.
Energy Strength is so good we’ve made it standard in every house we build.
The best part? Energy Strength Spray Foam starts saving you money from the day you move in. It gives you two times the insulation value and two times the strength of regular wall and ceiling construction at no extra cost to you. You can’t beat that.
