There is something about fall that makes some people get the decorating bug. Have you noticed that? And we think it’s great. It keeps everything fresh, it keeps people busy and it can be a lot of fun.
But you have to be careful to avoid decorating mistakes. And there are pretty common ones. For example:
• Don’t clutter the space. Using too many pieces of furniture or knick-knacks leads to that cluttered feeling. The same is true for magazines and other reading material, especially if it is obviously there for show.
• If the space is large, make sure the furnishings are appropriate in size. If the space is small, cut back on how much you put in it.
• Don’t try too hard to make everything match, be it color, texture or design. Everything does not have to match.
• Try paint samples before buying enough for a whole room. That way you will know if it is really the color you want before you commit.
• Don’t be afraid to wear out a measuring tape. First measure the space being decorated, then measure everything you plan to put there to make sure it will fit properly. That includes furniture and art. And don’t forget to take those measurements with you, when you go shopping.
Enjoy yourself!
