While most electrical work in your home should be done by a professional, light switches are fast and easy to replace. If you have a switch that’s not working or perhaps you want to install a smart switch like the WeMo, here’s what you’ll need to do.

Be sure to turn off the circuit breaker before starting any electrical project. With a flathead screwdriver remove the faceplate covering the switch. Then use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the switch from the wall. Pretty simple so far! You’ll see two wires that connect to screws on the switch. Test the wires to ensure there’s no electricity running through them. Disconnect the wires and re-attach them to the new switch. Now you’re ready to put everything back together.
